Residential Roller Shutter Doors

Insulated aluminium roller shutter doors for homes, garages and estates. Quiet, remote controlled, and built to keep working through load shedding.

Residential roller shutter door on a double garage
  • Insulated aluminium, quiet running
  • Battery backup for load shedding

Residential roller shutter doors trade the heavy galvanised slat of an industrial door for insulated aluminium. The result is a door that runs quietly, weighs far less on the motor, and does not boom through the house every time someone comes home late.

Single, double and tandem

We manufacture to the measured opening rather than to a stock size, which matters more on houses than people expect — very few garage openings are actually square. A door cut down from a standard size leaves gaps at the guides that let in rain, dust and light.

Load shedding

Every motorised door we install has a manual override so you are never locked in or out. Beyond that we can fit a battery backup that keeps the door operating normally through an outage, typically for dozens of cycles. Mention it when we quote and we will include the option priced separately so you can decide.

Specification

  • Insulated aluminium slat, foam-filled for quiet running and thermal performance
  • Powder-coated finish in standard and custom colours
  • Remote control as standard, with keypad, app control and intercom integration available
  • Anti-lift locking and safety edge
  • Openings to 5 000mm wide — enough for a double garage

Replacing an existing door

Most of our domestic work is replacement rather than new build. In many cases the existing guide rails and lintel are reusable, which brings the cost down. We check that on the site survey instead of quoting a full rebuild by default.

What matters on a house

Domestic priorities are different to industrial ones. Noise comes first — a garage door that wakes the house at 5am is a daily irritation, and insulated aluminium slat runs far quieter than galvanised steel while weighing much less on the motor. Appearance comes second, particularly on estates with an approved colour scheme. Security is a given rather than a differentiator.

Insulated aluminium is our default for homes and complexes. It holds a powder-coated finish in coastal air far better than painted steel, and the reduced weight means a smaller, quieter, longer-lived operator.

How we build it

Every door is manufactured to your measured structural opening at our own works, not cut down from a stock size. Slat is roll-formed on our own line, guides are cut and drilled to the opening height, and the springs are wound to balance the finished curtain weight. Powder coating is applied after fabrication so the colour holds across the whole assembly rather than just the visible slat.

What decides the specification

Two things: the width of the opening and how often the door moves. Spring life is measured in cycles rather than years, so a door opening forty times a day needs a different spring and drive to one opening twice, even at identical dimensions. After that it is environment — salt air, washdown, dust or forklift traffic each change the material and the hardware. That is why we survey before quoting.

Installation and handover

Fitted by our own teams, never subcontracted. Guides are set plumb and square, the curtain is hung and balanced, limits are set, and every safety device is tested and adjusted within safe closing force before we leave. You get a demonstration of normal operation and of the manual override, because the first time you need that override should not be during an outage.

Warranty and aftercare

Workmanship is covered for twelve months and motors carry their manufacturer warranty, which we register for you. Because we manufactured your door, we can tell you its exact specification years later and we hold the wear parts for it rather than ordering them in — which is the practical difference between a repair that happens this week and one that waits on a supplier.

On a house a roller door has to be quiet as well as secure. Domestic roller shutters run on nylon-lined guides and a balanced spring for that reason — a neighbour should not hear yours close at eleven at night.
