A bay door that runs forty times a day is a different machine from a door that runs twice. We specify the drive and the bearings against measured cycles, and we oversize rather than sit on the limit, because a drive running at its rating all day is a drive with a short life.

Impact protection and grit

Two things kill industrial doors on the West Rand. Forklifts, and dust. The dust that comes off the old mine ground gets into guides and bearings and grinds the curtain edge until the door runs heavy. Openings above about five metres need the barrel, the shaft and the fixing steel calculated rather than assumed. Where the existing structure will not carry a wider door we quote the steelwork honestly instead of hanging a door off something that will move.

Where a compartment line runs through an opening the door has to be a rated assembly, tested and certified, and it has to drop when it is told to. Where a building is temperature-controlled we build insulated curtains with proper seals. Both are quoted as what they are, with the certification included.

Three-phase power and controls

Most Roodepoort industrial sites have three-phase available, which lets us fit drives with the torque and the duty for heavy doors. Controls run to a station at the bay, with remotes for vehicles where the yard layout needs them, and isolation so the door can be made safe for maintenance.
