- Insulated aluminium or galvanised slat
- Openings to 5 000mm wide
- Remote and battery backup available
A roll-up garage door coils into a barrel above the opening instead of running back along the ceiling. In Roodepoort that solves a specific and very common problem: the older housing stock through Florida, Discovery, Witpoortjie, Princess and Maraisburg has garages with almost no ceiling space, and a sectional door will not fit.

- Galvanised steel roll-up doors for durability and low maintenance.
- Aluminium roll-up doors where a lighter curtain suits the opening and the motor.
- Powder-coated finishes matched to the house or the complex specification.
- Single and double widths, built to the measured opening.
Roll-up garage doors for low-headroom garages
The barrel needs a few hundred millimetres above the opening and nothing behind it. That makes a roll-up door the practical answer in the older Roodepoort garages, and it leaves the ceiling free for storage, which is normally the second reason people choose one.
Manual or motorised
Most roll-up doors are motorised with a tube motor inside the barrel. It is a tidy installation with nothing hanging from the ceiling, and it operates quietly. Every one we fit has a manual override, and we will fit battery backup where the household cannot be caught out by an outage.
Security on a roll-up garage door
Guide depth, end locks and the bottom rail do the work. A motorised door with a locking drive position cannot be pushed up from outside. Manual doors get proper locking rather than a token catch.
Insulation and weather
A single-skin roll-up curtain is not insulated, and we say so rather than implying otherwise. Where a garage is used as a room, an insulated sectional door is the better product. Where it is a garage, the roll-up door with good bottom seals is the sensible buy.
Replacing an old roll-up door
Most of our Roodepoort roll-up work is replacement. Old doors go heavy, the curtain edge wears, and the barrel springs fatigue. We measure the opening as it is now, because openings on older houses have moved, and remove and dispose of the old door as part of the job.
Maintenance
Guides cleared and lubricated, curtain edge checked, motor limits verified, springs checked against door mass. Annually is enough for a domestic door, and it is what stops the motor being asked to drag a heavy curtain.

Common questions
About roll-up garage doors
Very little — the curtain coils into a barrel just above the opening rather than running back along the ceiling. Around 300mm to 400mm above the lintel is usually enough. This is why roll-up doors are the answer in garages with beams, storage racking or a flat roof.
Older ones are. A modern galvanised curtain with nylon guide inserts and a soft start-and-stop motor is much quieter than the rattling doors people remember. Most of the noise complaints we are called out for turn out to be dry guides or a worn barrel bearing.
Not to the standard of an insulated sectional door, because the slats have to curl. We improve it with foam-filled slats and heavier perimeter sealing, which helps with dust and noise more than heat. If the garage is attached to living space, a sectional door is the better answer.
Curtains jumping out of the guides, worn barrel bearings, broken springs inside the barrel, and rust along the bottom rail where the door stands in driveway water. All four are repairable, usually in a single visit.
