- 40mm bonded polyurethane core
- Thermal break at every section joint
- Full perimeter seals, all four edges
An insulated garage door has a foam core between two skins rather than a single sheet of steel or aluminium. In Roodepoort the reason people buy one is usually temperature: a west-facing garage on the ridge through Helderkruin, Roodekrans or Little Falls takes the full afternoon sun, and if that garage is a workshop, a gym or a room, an uninsulated door makes it unusable by three in the afternoon.
Insulated garage doors we supply in Roodepoort
- Insulated steel sectional doors, the standard and the strongest option.
- Insulated aluminium-faced doors where the finish matters on the elevation.
- Insulated roller shutter doors for low-headroom garages that still need the performance.
- Full perimeter seals, without which the insulation in the panel does very little.
What insulation actually changes
Three things, and they are worth separating. Temperature, which is the reason most people ask. Noise, both from the street and from the door itself, which is the benefit people notice most afterwards. And stiffness, because a foam-cored panel is far more rigid than a single skin, so it tracks better and lasts longer on a wide opening.
Seals matter as much as the core
An insulated panel with a fifteen-millimetre gap under it is a compromised door. Bottom, side and head seals are part of the specification, not an accessory, and on Roodepoort openings they also keep out the dust that blows in off the dry western ground.
Insulated doors for garages used as rooms
Converted garages are common through Weltevredenpark, Allen’s Nek, Florida Park and Discovery. Where the space is a workshop, an office or a gym, the insulated door is the difference between a room that works year-round and one that only works in the morning.
Insulated doors on commercial and cold storage openings
Temperature-controlled areas in the trade and distribution buildings through Robertville, Technikon and Delarey need insulated curtains with proper sealing, and often high-speed operation so the opening is not standing open while the temperature leaves.
Weight, springs and the operator
Insulated doors are heavier. Springs are rated to the finished door and the operator is sized to the real mass. Fitting an insulated door onto hardware set up for a single-skin door is the most common reason one fails early.
Maintenance
Seals, balance and operator, checked annually. Seals are the part that wears and the part that quietly undoes the insulation you paid for.

Common questions
About insulated garage doors
If the garage is attached to the house, has been converted into a room, or has a bedroom above it — yes, clearly. If it is a detached garage storing a car and a lawnmower, the money is better spent on a heavier gauge or better locking.
Our standard sectional door uses a 40mm section with a rigid polyurethane core bonded to both skins. Because the foam bonds rather than sits loose, the section is stiffer than a single sheet of the same weight and does not drum.
Noticeably, in both directions: the boom of the door itself and traffic noise off the street. It is often the real reason people upgrade when there is a bedroom over the garage.
Low-headroom track kits recover part of the requirement. Beyond that a sectional door will not fit, and we get part of the benefit with an insulated roll-up curtain and heavier perimeter sealing instead. Measure lintel to ceiling and send us the number.

Where headroom allows a panel stack
Sectional doors lift in hinged panels that stack flat against the ceiling. They seal better than any other garage door and run quietly enough not to…

Transparent Roller Shutter Doors
Polycarbonate roller shutter doors that close an opening without closing off the light or the view. Popular for showrooms, malls and service counters.
Side-Hinged Garage Doors
Two leaves, nothing overhead
Side-hinged garage doors swing outward on two leaves, like an oversized pair of gates. They suit workshops, storerooms and low garages where nothing can run overhead.
